Cookies n Cream Buttercream Frosting
“Fluffy buttercream frosting loaded with crushed Oreos. Easy, quick and delicious cookies n cream frosting recipe”
My son Ethan only eats the inside of Oreo cookies. I can always tell when he’s snuck into the snack cabinet because I find all of these icing-less cookies sandwiched back together and crammed into the trays.
I’m pretty sure that is why he loves this cookies n cream frosting so much. It taste like much better than the Oreo cream filling.
What can you use cookies n cream buttercream frosting on? Oh I thought you’d never ask! Of course nothing compliments cookies n cream cake like some good ol cookies n cream buttercream frosting! And oh look! I just so happen to have a recipe for that right here! : )
But this frosting also taste heavenly on chocolate cakes, vanilla cakes, sour cream cakes and even frosted brownies.
It’s your classic vanilla bakery style buttercream frosting only loaded with crushed chocolate cookies!
Homemade frosting is so easy and quick to make there really isn’t a reason to turn to that stuff in the can. Beside there is nothing that taste better than frosting made with fresh butter. Just can’t beat it!
Remember when making the perfect frosting you want to add just enough milk to get the consistency you are going for. Less milk=a firmer frosting and more milk=a softer frosting.
Add the milk a little bit at a time since it doesn’t take much to go from one consistency to another. If you accidentally add more milk you can just throw in more sugar to firm it back up.
Don’t think you have to just stick with the original Oreos in this cookies n cream frosting. I’ve thrown in every cookie and candy under the sun. It just works! So guess the saying is true, “you just can’t go wrong with a buttercream frosting!”

I just made this frosting last night to go on some cookies & cream cupcakes (I used a boxed vanilla cake mix and stirred in some crushed oreos at the very end). My advice would be to start taste-testing this frosting after you have added 2 cups of the powdered sugar, and test often (every half cup) if you add more than that. I added 3 and a half cups before testing, and it was already sickeningly sweet. The consistency was fine for spreading with an offset spatula…it would be a challenge to try to pipe this frosting, considering that there are pieces of oreos throughout.
So if I don’t double recipe how many cupcakes could I frost?
How many as you want depends on if you want alot to taste on your cake or not
I made this cake and everyone enjoyed it. I’ve been baking since I was 7 yrs old. I’m 50 now. As a few other comments indicated, the layers were a bit crispy which made it difficult to cut. Not sure just yet how to tweak the recipe to prevent the crispiness but other than that the kids enjoyed the cake more than anyone. Too much sugar for us adults. We were all bouncing off the walls! Lol
How much crushed Oreos should be added to the buttercream frosting?
I would add about 6 crushed cookies. If you don’t want the icing to look too brown, just add 4 cookies.
